Geography

Field work is an important part of the curriculum

We teach Geography with the aim of widening pupil's horizons and helping them to have a greater understanding of the environment in which they live.

The department places great emphasis on field work. Last February, the Fourth Year went on a joint Science and Geography residential trip to the Lake District. Staff and pupils have access to an extensive range of textbooks, reference books, slides and DVDs, rock samples, O.S. maps, wallcharts and weather equipment. Each pupil has an atlas and works in an exercise book. Homework is set once a week from the second year up.

It is hoped that a study of Geography will widen pupils' horizons and give them a greater understanding of the local, national and global environment and community in which they live. It will also encourage a spirit of adventure and build upon the pupils' natural desire to seek out facts and opinions, helping them to become cultured and balanced citizens of this ever-changing world.
