Joining at 8+

The First Year is regarded as a period of settling in and adjusting to life in a large, fast moving prep school. The timetable is 'home-based' allowing the boys to spend most of their time in their own form room, ensuring a sense of routine and stability.

Entry

Boys may be registered for Colet Court from their fourth birthday. For entry at 8+, a boy's eighth birthday must fall on or before 31 August in his year of entry. There are about thirty-six places available at 8+.

How to register

To register your son for entry, please complete and return the registration form, together with a copy of your son’s birth certificate and the registration fee of £175. Please note that boys may only be registered for Colet Court from their fourth birthday.

For more information about entry at 8+, and a tour of the School, please contact the School Secretary, Mrs Louise McAlpine.

Selection procedure

Candidates are invited to Colet Court to sit tests in English, Mathematics and Reasoning. The Reasoning test results are weighted according to age. Unfortunately we are not able to send out past papers. An age appropriate suggested reading list and a maths syllabus are available. Boys who perform well in the written tests are invited back for a short interview and group assessment tasks. At the same time, parents also have the opportunity to meet with the Headmaster. The interviews take place during the two weeks following the tests, enabling boys to know their results within a fortnight.

Important dates

The closing date for registration for entry in September 2015 is 4pm on Friday 10 October 2014. Parents of registered candidates will be sent an exam application form and an invitation to Open Morning. For parents who have registered their son sufficiently early this mailing will be sent in the summer of the year prior to entry. Parents who register nearer to the deadline will receive the exam application form and invitation in October.

The closing date for receipt of exam application forms is 31 October 2014. Please note that there can be no exceptions made for late applications, including forms lost in the post.

For entry in 2015 the examination for 8+ candidates will be held on Saturday 17 January 2015.

Fees

The Colet Court fee per term (including lunch) is £5,807 (Sept 2014). Means-tested fee assistance is available to all those who are offered a place. The Governors make some remission of fees when there are three or more children of one family at the Schools of the Foundation. Formal application, in writing, must be made by the parent.
