On Thursday 23 February, the Colet Court Cross-country teams opened their running account at St John’s Beaumont School, near Windsor. The weather was bright and sunny, the course was steep and challenging and confidence was high as the boys met in their Colet Court running vests (fresh out of the shop that morning).
We entered the U11 and U13 team relay races competing against eight schools in both events. After some lengthy discussions about running orders and strategy the races began. We started well in both events with our boys never moving below third place. As the races progressed, our impressive fitness levels, excellent race strategy and the ‘Colet Court desire to succeed’ began to shine even more brightly than the sunlight! We managed to take over the baton for the last leg in both races in first place. Team captains Daniel Craig-McFeely and Paul Calderon held their composure brilliantly to see us home in first place in both the U11 and the U13 events, which meant we were also crowned as the overall winners. The runners were: U13 Nico Hughes, Nicky Crompton, Max Buckley and Paul Calderon; U11 Spencer Winningham, Harry Grindle, Ben Ballard, Daniel Craig-McFeely.
